What is Fascia?

Fascia is connective tissue that is made up of a spider web of fibrous, gluey, and wet proteins. It runs throughout the entire body and encompasses us head-to-toe, from the top of the head to the feet and everywhere in-between. Your fascia provides a framework that helps support and protect individual muscle groups, organs, and the entire body as a unit.

Imagine a grapefruit, for example. Your skin is the peel. The dense, white layer that lies beneath the peel would be your fascia. The thinner white layers that surround each section of the grapefruit is like the fascia that covers your muscles and the even thinner layers that encompass each individual pulp is much like the fascia that surrounds your individual muscle fibers and so on. We have several types of fascia that can be simplified into superficial and deep layers.
